Graphic design: Memphis Zombies

In 2007 I was part of a small group of people in Memphis who had heard about zombie flash mobs (some weird new internet thing at the time) in other cities, and we wanted to bring a zombie flash mob to Memphis as a performance art project. With the help of illustrator Jamie Sanford, I worked up several handbills and flyers that I printed in black and white and stapled and stashed all over Midtown and Downtown. We also began an aggressive social media — MySpace and blogging! — campaign. Our efforts got us a writeup in the Memphis Flyer and the crowd at the first year’s event was probably around 300 participants.

Over the next handful of years, we ramped up our social media and flyering efforts, and even got a couple of spots on the local news to advertise the event and ask people to bring canned goods for the Mid-South Food Bank. The event grew to more than 1,000 participants each year, plus hundreds more excited onlookers.

This is a collection of some of the graphic design work I did in an effort to drive attention and action to the Memphis Zombie Massacre.
